Suma: A plastic-free future
The plastic-free movement is evolving with growing demand for nature-based alternatives such as bamboo
In response to ever-increasing consumer demand for plastic-free products, Suma Whole Foods has launched a brand-new range of bamboo products and accessories, all zero waste and beautifully crafted, to provide consumers with an easy yet sustainable alternative to plastic.
The range, ALTER/NATIVE, has been created in collaboration with BambuuBrush and offers consumers a simple way to make more sustainable choices for their homes, particularly the bathroom.
BambuuBrush was created by Tommie and Rebecca, who witnessed the devastating impact of plastic waste on the environment while on their global travels. In 2019, the duo made a pledge to prevent 1,000,000kg of plastic toothbrushes from entering circulation and already, they have replaced more than 165,000kg.
Since launching BambuuBrush, Tommie and Rebecca have developed educational workshops for schools and organised a number of beach clean-ups, even partnering with Virgin Atlantic.
Their mantra #OneSimpleChange highlights their belief that small actions, when multiplied, can change the world.
BambuuBrush’s mission to lead the way in ethical and sustainable alternatives made the collaboration with Suma a natural fit, supporting the worker-owned, equal-pay co-op with its commitment to doing business sustainably and inspiring change for good.
Tommie says: “Plastic itself isn’t the problem, it’s our consumption habits. We need to move towards a circular economy, redesigning products to be recyclable from the start.”
The range includes toothbrushes made from sustainably sourced Moso bamboo so no pandas go hungry, plus toothbrush cases, and soap dishes that are 100% compostable, as are the range’s bamboo cotton buds.
