Sports fans benefit from green moves
Iconic sporting events including Six Nations, the FA Cup Final and the Cheltenham Gold Cup will provide fans with cutting-edge carbon footprint information about food and drink this spring and summer
Freemans Event Partners, a wholesale member of Confex, has teamed up with food sustainability experts Klimato to include carbon labelling information on their menus at legendary venues including Wembley Stadium, Lord’s Cricket Ground and Twickenham Stadium.
This new partnership enables Freemans Event Partners to calculate the carbon emissions created by every single menu item provided. This means that more than 15 million guests across 400 events annually will be able to clearly see the carbon impact of the food and drink they choose.
SUSTAINABLE CHOICES
“More and more consumers are interested in making sustainable food and drink choices and this new partnership with Klimato will enable them to do that just as easily when at some of the UK’s biggest events, as when they are at home,” said Simon Hanna, Chief Operations Officer, Freemans Event Partners.
“The technology means we can also look to optimise every dish on our menu to ensure it has the lowest carbon impact possible without losing any of the great taste and quality we are known for. Watch this space, there will be more to come.”
And it doesn’t stop there. As well as introducing carbon labelling, the foodservice wholesaler is also reviewing its menus to update any existing recipes that score highly, switching out ingredients or cooking methods to more sustainable alternatives.
This will ensure as many dishes as possible have a low score and reduce the overall carbon footprint of the food and beverage offer at any event.
