Pricecheck’s sustainability champions to drive change
The Sheffield-based distributor has created a new force for good by assembling a network of volunteers to act as a focal point for environmental issues throughout the business
Made up of eight eco-conscious individuals from different departments, the champions aim to bring about transformation by improving processes and promoting responsible behaviours among their peers.
The team, headed up by Pricecheck’s HR director, is set to meet quarterly to discuss and evaluate the progress of sustainability initiatives. So far, they have already introduced new incentives to encourage colleagues to think, act and be greener.
This includes launching a partnership with the Treekly® app to provide a daily walking challenge for Pricecheck employees that supports mangrove reforestation. Completing 5,000 steps on any 20 days in a month converts to one tree planted in Kenya, with the reforestation methods aligned to 10 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Lucy Goddard, HR director at Pricecheck, articulated the importance of integrating sustainability within the business, “As a growing FMCG distributor, we are always finding ways to do business more responsibly. Like most companies, we continue to invest in technologies and processes to reduce our impact and achieve our ESG goals, but many businesses are leaving out one big influence – their people.”
“True progress cannot be made unless our workforce is on the same page, and that’s where our sustainability champions come in,” she continued. “By counting on experts who can lead on the environment front and set standards for other employees, we aspire to make a real difference, one step at a time.”
With more plans to be announced shortly, Pricecheck’s sustainability champions are the latest of several initiatives introduced by the distributor to push the business towards a greener future.
